SolarMyBill is an independent solar calculator for Canadian homes. It measures your roof from above, designs a system on it and prices the result against your real electricity bill.
We don’t sell panels
We don’t install, finance or manufacture anything. Our job is to tell you whether solar is worth it on your roof.
We say when it doesn’t pay
Shade, cheap electricity or no credit for exports can make solar a poor deal. When that’s the case, we say so and explain why.
Every number shows its math
Results come from an hour-by-hour model of your roof, your bill and your utility’s rates. You can change any assumption.
One installer, only if you ask
Nobody calls you unless you request quotes, and then we introduce you to one vetted installer, not a list.
How we make money
SolarMyBill is free for homeowners. When you ask for quotes, we introduce you to one vetted installer in your area, and that installer pays us a fee for the introduction. The fee doesn’t depend on whether you buy, and it doesn’t change our numbers: the calculator gives the same answer whether or not you ask for quotes.
We never sell your details or share them with more than one installer per request. See our privacy policy.
How we calculate
Roof geometry and sunlight come from Google’s Solar API. We simulate every hour of a typical year to split what your home uses from what it exports, bill it on your rate plan with your province’s rules, and project 25 years with rising rates, slowly wearing panels and a mid-life inverter replacement. How we keep information accurate
- Rates, rebates and rules are checked against utility, regulator and government sources, with the source and date shown.
- We log changes that affect your answer on what’s changed.
- Programs that have closed are marked closed, not quietly removed, so you aren’t misled by older articles.
- Estimates are labelled as estimates. An installer confirms everything with an on-site assessment.
